Oh, baby! Apple announces iPhone X

September 12, 2017

Hel-lo! Did everyone else hear “improved portrait mode AND real time studio lighting effects?!” Built in — on the front and the selfie side cameras — be still my heart!  And wonderfully, finally, we now have an OLED screen that fills from edge to edge (except there are no edges of course) for true blacks and richer more beautiful colors. I’ll be moving from a screen size of 5.5 (my 7plus display size) to now 5.8 on the iPhone X. The telephoto lens (super important for low light situations) went from f/2.8 to f/2.4. Something that I’m thrilled to see improved and honestly will always be glad to see improved no matter how good it gets. Better in low light will always be better.

Believe it or not, one of the things I will enjoy the most is the size. The 7plus has always been just a little too big to hold comfortably, and this X goes down in size, but magically the screen size goes up. Well, not magically, it’s because of edge to edge but magically sounds so much more magical.

Lots of other cool additions like face recognition to get into your phone (I’m pleased that the recognition stays on your phone and doesn’t get stored on a server) which also lets you animate emojis and doesn’t that sound like fun. And the last thing I want to mention, which is no small thing, is that they increased the battery life by two more hours! But I was waiting for the camera advancements and hoping the new phone would go down in size, and I got my wish on both counts so sign me up!

Once I get one in my anxiously awaiting hands, I’ll write a review and let you know more.

Can’t wait!

I’ll be waiting for your review. I’m debating on buying the X. I would only buy it only for the camera… and $1,000 could really improve my old DLSR camera. Then again the best camera is the one you have with you …like your iPhone in your pocket.

That is a tough call, Larry. When someone uses a DSLR I think the iPhone (or any smartphone) is a great camera to keep in practice with. But choosing between the new phone and upgrading your DSLR gear? Whew! I’m glad it’s you that has to make that decision. 😉

      Best of luck!

I can’t wait either! I’ll be upgrading from a 6 to X. I think I might need a net below me for that jump! The lighting feature sounds very cool; Kalebra you may need to upgrade some of the videos in your KelbyOne class! 🙂 I just finished it today, finally! Awesome class!

Too big, I think I’ll stick to my iPhone SE a while more, if I would like a camera I got my Nikon D810 and whatever lens I like…

Certainly seems reasonable to me. 🙂
