Moments, Things I Hope My Kids Will Read One Day

One of the best things about summer?

June 20, 2017

Late night Jenga with the kids! Hahaha!

Yittle: “OMG! OMG! They’re going to fall. I can’t take it. I can’t even look. Mom!…”

Big Brother: (Home from college and as pestery as ever). “Whoa! What was that?!” (Makes loud sound and jumps in Yittle’s direction). “I think I’ll just pull this one from the bottom here.” (Looks over at Yittle and waits for the anticipated shriek — which she delivers.) Hahaha!

Yittle: “Eek!! Don’t do it!! No! No! OMG! They’re going to all fall in my direction!”

Amazingly, though, they don’t fall. Whew!

Me: “Babies, babies, babies…just calm down.”

Big Brother: “Mom. OMG! How many times? Please stop saying that.”

Yeah, well, where do you think he got his pestery gene? LOL!

Me to Big Brother:  “Did you just shake the table?!”

Yittle turns and stares at her brother with eyes wide open.

Big Brother: Ever so innocently says, “No.” As he puts his arm down (extra firm) and Jenga logs EXPLODE across the table!

Yittle BURSTS into a Julia Robert’s type of joyful laughter and falls onto the floor, which set Big Brother and me off into our own fits of laughter and, well, that was the end of Jenga. Hahahaha!

Man, I love summer. ☺️

“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.” – Jim Valvano

June 18, 2017

I love this image. It is my Father in law, Jerry Kelby, as he played on the floor with our son, Jordan Kelby, as my husband, Scott Kelby, watched with love and happiness. What my husband probably didn’t think about was what he was learning — which was wonderful lots from his wonderful dad. Not because his dad sat him down and instructed him but because of moments like this and because he believed in his son and because…Love.

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices over the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures. Love never ends.” 1 Corinthians 13:4

To my husband, to my father, and to all the fathers out there on this Father’s Day — I hope it is a happy one, filled with love and kindness and many squishy, happy, hugs. ☺️

P.S. Honey, thank you for paying such good attention — I love you even more for it. ❤️

Oh, Peter, you say the most thoughtful things.

“All those years I thought that it was power that brought responsibility. It’s not. I was wrong. It’s responsibility that brings power. It’s knowing what needs to be done that brings strength. And courage.” — Peter Parker

I was in New York this weekend and found myself looking out onto a lot of not my usual perspectives. Gave into my inner Peter Parker and had a lot of fun doing it too. I don’t think it’s the last time I’ll try something like this.

Especially when it gets…reflective.

Happy Monday everyone. I hope your week is a good one. 🙂

“So Mom…how do you win again?”

May 25, 2017

With less judgment and more forgiveness. When we can just “be” without having to “be right.” When beauty isn’t only in the “eye of the beholder”
but we know it of ourselves (on the inside). When…

“Uh, Mom, that all sounds great, but I just meant it about this card game we’re playing here?”

Hahaha! Right. I’m sorry Yittle. Okay, so each person gets seven cards…wait…can I get a hug?

Silly mom. 😉

May we all be winners every day. 💛

The best date nights…

May 21, 2017

The best date nights always have rain.

I love the rain and date night.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone and if you can remember, check back here tomorrow for something (a little) different. 😉

Rockin’ the Zen this morning. ;)

May 18, 2017

Every time (and I do mean every time) I get in a rush a turtle is placed, literally or figuratively, in my path. Yesterday, it was this little one and I was so grateful for her that I thought I’d share the moment. You know, in case you also needed a reminder to slowdown. 😉

Have a great day everyone.☀️

This animated short made me laugh and cry — I hope you’ll watch it! I am distracted like this a thousand times a day. Hahahaha! It is also my children as I’ve been discussing (giggling, shhh!) about my Yittle’s drawings on her morning math worksheets and as my son polishes up his first fantasy novel while studying for finals. Silly, wonderful, children! It’s such a blessing to see beauty in the midst of mundane and to hear it even over the din. Thank you, Jonathan Thompson for sending me this — you made my day joyful! Spreading it around. 😉

I can’t believe it’s over! So much love, inspiration and fun!

April 24, 2017

My awesome husband, Scott Kelby, has put together a wrap up post for our annual convention Photoshop World! If you have a chance click the link http://scottkelby.com/highlights-photoshop-world-2017-conference/ and check it out — a true labor of love for us and everyone at KelbyOne. I had such a great time meeting and talking to everyone that I, literally, lost my voice. Hahaha!

Have a terrific Monday and get some rest. Wait. What?. 😉

“Are you Grumpy Cat?”

April 8, 2017

Last night, around 9:00 p.m., I wandered up to my now favorite coffee bar and ordered a coffee. I couldn’t help but notice the brusqueness with which the man behind the counter took my order and “offered” some “advice” for the coffee I was taking away for someone else. I further paid attention to how he answered a woman who stopped to ask him for directions and when my young daughter and niece sat down at the counter (not realizing they were with me) I had to gently offer, “They’re with me” before he said something we’d have all regretted. Hahaha! I watched him for a few more sips and then became so intrigued by his grumpiness (he even managed to dry off the cups in a grumpy way) that I simply could not control my curiosity any longer and so I asked, “Are you Grumpy Cat?”

What happened next is what I love about people, about life, about coffee. Hahaha!

Grumpy Cat: “No, I’m Sleepy Cat.”

Me: Well, that explains it, Sleepy Cat can often turn into Grumpy Cat. Why so sleepy?

Sleepy Cat: “I have a 9 week old at home and I haven’t slept in nine weeks. I’m just tired. I apologize if I’ve been grumpy.”

Me: My hands immediately go into prayer position and I start to squeal with excitement (probably NOT what Grumpy/Sleepy Cat was hoping for) and I say, “First, congratulations! How wonderful! And, no wonder you’re so tired. Tell me, do you have one of those swinging bassinets?”

Sleepy Cat: “Actually, I do but…”

Sleepy Cat and I had a wonderful little chat and he wound up smiling (dare I say, giggling) and showing me photos of one of the most beautiful little nine week old babies you’ve ever seen. What an unexpected, awesome, cup of coffee. Now, Sleepy Cat, likely won’t remember me but I’ll remember him because he was once Grumpy Cat and when grumpy cats smile they have the most incredible smiles — the ones you never forget.

Have a great weekend everybody and if you happen to run into a grumpy cat remember he might just be a sleepy cat in disguise. Silly Sleepy Cat. 😽
