“Everything you can imagine is real.” ― Pablo Picasso

July 22, 2017

This is Melanie Kern-Favilla, a talented artist, and photographer. She also happens to be a train engineer on the Long Island Rail Road and a KelbyOne.com member. Melanie entered and won our international member competition and, last night had her work featured in a solo gallery show at The Gallery at KelbyOne. Melanie is the real deal, the genuine article and an all around awesome person. I like that about her, and I couldn’t be happier for her. Congratulations, Melanie, you rock! Thank you for being such an inspiration to us all. 🙂

And you see that encourager standing next to her? That’s her husband, Dave. Dave encouraged her to enter, ensured her that she’d make the final round and then on announcement day was racing home and on the phone telling her she’d better be watching The Grid (Kelby TV) because she was “Going to win!” I like that about him. Dave, you rock! Don’t ever stop being the power of the other because, well, it’s a wonderful thing to be. 🙂

Thank you to everyone at KelbyOne that makes this event happen each time. From the artist selection process to installation, to video, graphics, marketing, member services, web, IT, our wonderful host for the evening, Mr. Larry Becker, right down to the selection and placement of the wine and cheese there isn’t a single person who isn’t involved. Heck, I even saw our book team taking promotional shots last night. Hahaha! We’re all excited for our members and this opportunity for them, so I want to thank our team, from the bottom of my heart, it means a lot to me.

Members chatting with Melanie about her work.

Everyone wanted Anthony Scott (voted to have the “Best Photographer Stance Game”) to take their photo at the gallery step and repeat backdrop. Hahaha!

Thank you to everyone that came and helped Melanie, and all of us at KelbyOne and the whole membership celebrate — can’t wait until next time!

So excited I forgot to burst!

July 8, 2017

Well, Burst Mode, on the iPhone that is. 😉 And because I forgot I got one shot, this one. Last night we were coming home (over the Causeway) when this cheeky pelican invited us to follow him. It was so exciting to see him there, over the water, all silhouetted at sunset and everything. Hahaha! And no idea that we were playing awesome music inside the car with each of us (me, my husband and our Yittle) getting to take turns picking a song, right at the moment he showed up to invite us into this beautiful flight scene. So lucky I had my trusty iPhone because even though he had invited us to follow we were about to pass him! Hahaha! A little cropping and editing in Adobe’s Aviary and voila!

I had to share though because this is a thing I love most about using the camera on my phone — chances/moments like this. Now when I think back on that exciting (soundtracked) moment with our cheeky pelican and that beautiful sunset, I’ll also have an image and that is a beautiful thing.

Have a great weekend everyone — I hope you don’t miss a moment of it. 🙂

Florida Oranges

July 1, 2017

One of my favorite things about Florida is the predictable afternoon/evening summer storms, and last night the skies before the rain turned a gorgeous shade of orange. Even for someone that’s seen that happen a lot here, it was still a sight to be seen. It’s nice to have the rain back. ☺️

There’s so much more to these baskets of fruit than you can see in this photo.

June 25, 2017

You see, I have this sister, well, I have three of them actually, and a brother but this photo is because of one of my sisters but to tell you about her I have to explain that yesterday was my father’s birthday…

It was a special one as he (and his twin sister) turned 75. His children budgeted, planned, worked together and each of us took on a task to make the party happen — and a good time was had by all! Hahaha! That’s the short version so I can tell you about my sister, Cheryl, and her decorations. She wanted to take on the task of not only decorating but making all the decorations. I have no idea how many hours she spent, but when she showed me the salad bowl and told me she spent eight hours decorating (just it) I believe I said, “I would be buried with that bowl!” Hahahaha! She went with a country theme (as you might have guessed by the fruit baskets). She also had little serving dishes and baskets and trays and signs and banners and, and honest to goodness…

It is her art. She loves doing it (obviously) but it was a gift of love, and I just hope she knows how much I, we, appreciated it. Thank you, Cheryl, everything was beautiful — we all loved it!

A brother in law and sister in law volunteered to man the grill (on a very hot Florida afternoon) — THANK YOU! Parents and young ones watched over and swam with wee ones, some that used to be the young ones but now can be the ones catching and releasing in the lake with their young ones. The ones visiting from college and, thankfully, also doing all the heavy lifting, and my favorite part, the stories, and laughter that were shared around the table, around the pool, around the patio and just around. Dad and his sister each blew out a set of candles that read “75” because my son said, “They’re twins, but they’re still individuals.” ( I like that about him.) And they did it surrounded by a family that loves them. 💛

“It don’t get no better than this.” – Dad ☺️

“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.” – Jim Valvano

June 18, 2017

I love this image. It is my Father in law, Jerry Kelby, as he played on the floor with our son, Jordan Kelby, as my husband, Scott Kelby, watched with love and happiness. What my husband probably didn’t think about was what he was learning — which was wonderful lots from his wonderful dad. Not because his dad sat him down and instructed him but because of moments like this and because he believed in his son and because…Love.

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices over the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures. Love never ends.” 1 Corinthians 13:4

To my husband, to my father, and to all the fathers out there on this Father’s Day — I hope it is a happy one, filled with love and kindness and many squishy, happy, hugs. ☺️

P.S. Honey, thank you for paying such good attention — I love you even more for it. ❤️

Oh, Peter, you say the most thoughtful things.

June 5, 2017

“All those years I thought that it was power that brought responsibility. It’s not. I was wrong. It’s responsibility that brings power. It’s knowing what needs to be done that brings strength. And courage.” — Peter Parker

I was in New York this weekend and found myself looking out onto a lot of not my usual perspectives. Gave into my inner Peter Parker and had a lot of fun doing it too. I don’t think it’s the last time I’ll try something like this.

Especially when it gets…reflective.

Happy Monday everyone. I hope your week is a good one. 🙂

“So Mom…how do you win again?”

May 25, 2017

With less judgment and more forgiveness. When we can just “be” without having to “be right.” When beauty isn’t only in the “eye of the beholder”
but we know it of ourselves (on the inside). When…

“Uh, Mom, that all sounds great, but I just meant it about this card game we’re playing here?”

Hahaha! Right. I’m sorry Yittle. Okay, so each person gets seven cards…wait…can I get a hug?

Silly mom. 😉

May we all be winners every day. 💛

The best date nights…

May 21, 2017

The best date nights always have rain.

I love the rain and date night.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone and if you can remember, check back here tomorrow for something (a little) different. 😉
